Okay so this book wasn't what I expected but I loved it. I know many people especially one's who love greek mythology did not enjoy this book. I am a big mythology fan myself but I didn't have an issue with the book. There were a few times where I thought the portrayal of the gods was a but strange but nothing big enough to influence my enjoyment of the story.

The writing style was great. This is the first book I've read by Alexandra Bracken and I definitely want to read more! The Darkest Minds has been on my tbr for a while so I'm excited to read that soon :)

The ending was quite abrupt and a bit under explained imo and that's part of the reason my I didn't give it 5 stars. I genuinely enjoyed it but it just wasn't five stars for me.

Edit: After sleeping on it I decided to give it 4 instead of 5.75. There were no real plot twists and everything that was explained I had already guessed before. The things I couldn't figure out on my own weren't explained in the end which left me confused.

’I was born knowing how to do three things - how to breathe, how to dream, and how to love you.’’”

I can’t get over how much I love this book. I wasn’t expecting to love it this much because I thought parts of the plot were going to be predictable. It wasn’t until Athena’s betrayal that I realised how much I was enthralled!

I didn’t predict any of the plots regarding the Aegis throughout the book, only the Apollo storyline and what I thought would be the Wrath storyline. However, this book just subverted my every expectation and had me kicking myself for not realising things sooner. 10/10 would recommend this book to anyone!

oh melora, love of mine. This book has given me everything, a female MC that is not a pick me, strong, independent, whose existence doesn't depend on a pleasing a male, and with a development of her own, a male MC that defies toxic masculinity, side characters that are lovable and have a personality of their own, literally so in love with this book.

Trigger warning: rape
Lore was an interesting read to say the least booktok loves lore but it was hard for me to get invested until the last 100 or so pages the multiple twist were wonderful and it was more inclusive than other books I’ve read

The Greek pantheon are still alive, and nine of them are being punished. Every seven years, during the Agon, the gods become mortal, and the surviving descendants of some of the most powerful Greek heroes have one week to kill them and thereby gain their power and immortality—but also their curse, their hunted existence. Only three of the original gods remain at the start of this year's Agon: Athena, Artemis, and Hermes. Lore is the last mortal descendant of the House of Perseus, but she left the hunter's life behind after her family—mother, father, and sisters—were murdered at the end of the last Agon. But when her childhood friend and training partner finds her, and Athena turns up, wounded, on her doorstep, Lore is dragged back into the world of her childhood: one of blood and violence and glory.

This felt like a slightly more adult version of Percy Jackson crossed with The Hunger Games, and while it was rather too violent for my taste, it was hard to put down. I'm a sucker for mythology (Greek and otherwise), and I really liked the little details Bracken added that were related to the myths but not essential for the main plot.
I am also a sucker for the theme of sacrifice, so I liked how that was tied in as well.
I loved a lot of the supporting characters: Miles, Van, and especially Castor.

Happy ending meter (no spoilers, just the general vibe of the ending):
Happy! (kind of inexplicably so, tbh, but I'm not complaining)
