I listened to the audiobook and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I thought the narrater did a fantastic job with this book. It was an engaging listen and I was rooting for Sisi and Franz’ love to win, regardless of it being initially disapproved of. I think love should always win and I felt their love as real, romantic, warm and intense. I’d be very happy to relive this book via paperback.
The book describes an inertia of some of the characters lives, seeking what’s missing and being desperate to fill that empty void with some rebellious callings. Even though their conscience is aware of what they’re supposed to be adhering to, they are determined to honour their true selves and calling. The dissatisfaction that resided on their hearts guided them, to pushing through and seeking a life with their true love.
Thanks so much to NetGalley and all involved in allowing me to listen to this wonderful audiobook.

Book Review…The Empress by Gigi Griffis
I actually enjoyed this one! I started in the afternoon and by that evening I was done. Elizabeth's character was one that I really enjoyed. She is a free spirit and isn't willing to be shaped into what society expects her to be. She ends up falling in love with the emperor but the problem is her sister is supposed to marry him. So you can imagine the problems this causes. I loved the descriptions of the settings and the chemistry between Elizabeth and Franz. The only thing is I wish there was a little more to the story. It was a good one and I enjoyed my time lost in the pages. I just wish there was a little more to the drama. Overall it was a fast refreshing and enjoyable read!

I didn't realise this was based on the show and no the other way around. This would explain why the book felt quite empty. It's definitely very readable/listenable, although I found the romantic gushing insufferable at times. Knowing that in real life, Sisi's story became just one tragedy after another made it feel quite bittersweet and the tone felt off.

this was an enjoyable listen! the writing felt kind of young adult at times and some plot points were never resolved (i.e. franz's affair with louise and the book ending with franz and elizabeth's wedding day), but overall it followed the plot of the netflix show pretty closely, if simplifying it a bit, and i thought the narrators did a good job.
