This book is nonstop action, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it did not balance that action with much in the way of character building. I found that, without knowing and caring about the characters, I didn’t care that much whether they lived or died during the action scenes. It was easy to get distracted and zone out while listening to the audiobook and I ended up rewinding frequently to figure out what I missed. Also, the title character’s mouthy banter at times went beyond “witty” into “irritating” and, on a couple occasions, borderline offensive. Even so, I still might give the next in the series a try, as this is so different from any of the other sapphic fiction I’ve encountered.
Graphic: Death, Religious bigotry, and Sexism
Moderate: Murder, Injury/Injury detail, Drug use, and Racism
Minor: Slavery
