"Maybe we could live forever if we didn't love so completely. But we do. And by the time old age comes, we're filled with holes, so many that it's too hard to breathe. So many that our insides aren't even ours anymore. We're just one big empty space, waiting to be filled by the darkness. Waiting to be free."

I wouldn’t say that it deeply moved me but I did find myself empathising with the characters and their flaws. I liked the way the story unfolded, but strangely also wished there was a bit more depth to the plot.

WOW.
That's literally the only thing I can say about this book.
It was definitely a heavy read for sure, but this narrative was written so beautifully and I loved how flawed and painfully human every character was. (That didn't excuse certain actions in the book at ALL, but Tahir definitely showed the ugly side of human nature in this heartbreaking yet hopeful piece honestly.)
PLEASE check trigger warnings before you read this, but without a doubt, this is quite possibly the best book I've read this month (idk if it's too early to say that). GIVE SABAA TAHIR HER FLOWERS NOW!
This has to be a 5/5 stars for me :)

Such a beautiful and heartwarming book about love, grief, friendship, pain, anger … about experiencing things you don’t deserve, that break you, and trying to navigate your feelings; about, perhaps most importantly, what it means to forgive, and to heal. The last chapter absolutely tore my heart and made me want to cry. I felt right at home with the characters being Pakistani and Muslim, the Urdu and the familiar experiences, foods and traditions. I don’t know how to describe it but reading this really touched something deep in my heart
