Oof. This story made me fall in love with Noor, Salahudin and Misbah and I adored their mutual relationships. Juniper - and especially its motel and liquor store - came alive as well, feeling like I was there among them. Tahir has a magnificent way of taking you along and giving you the time to figure out what’s happening so that once she tells you it’s just the last push to breaking your heart. Will be thinking about this for a while.

Gritty and heart-breaking, this book discusses all the ways that life can hurt us and try to break our spirits. It serves as a reminder that we have to remain strong, fight another day, push through the hard things even when it doesn’t feel like we can. This book touched me to my core. I connected with Noor and her love for songs and with Salahudin and his love of words. They tell a story that is devastating yet real and show how love can conquer the demons that plague us.

Jeez. What an emotional rollercoaster! I loved every bit of it though. It felt real and painful yet it was also full of hope and tenderness. The audio also makes it 10x better

It's rough trying to write a review of a book when the tears are still coming strong. I've never read a book that understands religion in the exact same way I do. I feel like this book saw my soul. I've been trying to articulate it my whole life, and it turns out a woman I've never met, who was born in a country I will probably never visit, knows the things I do. This book is human on a level I didn't know a book could be. I've been wandering through life with the thought that this story might exist, and it is a joy to have found it.

If I could give a higher rating I would. Not only is the writing beautiful, but the story is beyond touching. I saw myself in it but I also saw more. It was poetry, it was pain. It was truth telling and that is so vital right now.
