I first read Gone With the Wind when I was 10 and I've read it several times since. While the main character of this book was obviously familiar with Scarlett, there were glaring omissions in her character. I find it hard to believe that a thirty-year-old woman who has read GWTW multiple times could suddenly "wake up" to how Scarlett treated Prissy. I'm not objecting to her love for the book or for Scarlett, but more to the unrealistic portrayal of GWTW in Scarlett Says.
Joan wavers between believable and unbelievable. Her compulsive eating was well described and accurate. I did have trouble believing that she went from a 16 to an 8 in a matter of months through sheer calorie reduction. But people do it.
We were really left hanging with no conclusion to her relationship with Cynthia and Olie. On the whole, I felt frustrated with the story. It was just a bridge too far for me.
