Very good but takes a little long to get to the point. Contains gruesome scenes.

Although it seems to be a good story line I found that I just couldn’t maintain an interest. Maybe I’m just not into mer stories. The language and names were complex and there was so many of them that it took away the flow of reading while looking up the meanings for them. I know that there was a second book coming out (I don’t know if it did and am not interested in finding out) but the ending felt incomplete.

I'm always hopeful for a good mermaid story, this one was better than others. I loved the different lore and study that went into this story, but it just fell flat for me. There were times where I was confused by who was who and what they were doing and who they were running from. Also how do you drink tea underwater?

No matter how many times I read this, I still love it. This is my comfort book. The one I always go back to when I’m in a reading slump. This is the book that made me start to love reading. This book and the series will always hold a special place in my heart.

Nein danke.

Not as compelling as Donnelly's other YA books, but still a good read.
