This book is touching and sweet and incredibly sad all at once. I enjoyed this prequel as it provided some clarity for things that happened later on down the line. I felt like the characters are all written very distinctly so the shifting perspective is never confusing.

So here's the thing about this book, its a great follow up to the first in the "Series" as it were, because even though its a prequel its main focus for most the story is the world building and establishing what kind of New York these characters are living in and subsequently, dying in.

Not really a spoiler, its in the title.

But here are some very minor spoilers if you wanna keep reading. You are getting a lot of the same here as you did in the first novel, just longer. There's backstory, more world-building, and a shit ton of callbacks to the first novel (and little easter eggs) which give context for who these characters were that were either mentioned or featured in the first story.

These mostly work in service of the novel but sometimes feel like they are just kinda cameos for the sake of cameos and they could have been cut down or cut out. The only other thing that really makes me think that this could have been better is that the story itself, while different and heart wrenching feels far less emotionally powerful to me.

Beautiful. Makes life feel beautiful. The words are gripping and the plot unknown, yet you grieve the main charecter before you even start.

This book was extremely disappointing. I really liked "They Both Die at the End" I felt like this book didn't compare to that book in any way. Maybe this review will be a little harsh but when you have books that are a series, I can't help but compare the books.

The reason I liked the other book so much was because that book had character development and actually had a plot. I felt that this books plot was solely romance. The characters in this book were flat with no personality. I wasn't rooting for them at all. I really wasn't that interested in either of their stories. I felt like I was more interested in the other side characters than our main characters.

I was actually pretty invested in Gloria's relationship. The ending (involving Gloria) was actually my favorite part of the whole book. It not really the best sign when I say my favorite part was with people who were only talking about on like 50/550 pages.

I liked to see the interworks of death-cast. I hate the dude who owned death-cast thought, there was something about him that rubbed me the wrong way. I think that was the only reason I didn't DNF this book. I really enjoy the concept of death-cast. And anything that is about death-cast I will continue to read.

I have a lot of mixed feelings about this book. There were parts that I hated and there were parts that I loved. But if the parts that I loved were about other people who weren't the main characters, is the book really that good?

Orion & Valentino's chapters are the weakest (I skipped a few towards the end) & we never learn Death Cast's secret :/

This was good, however it felt too forced and a little too similar to the first book. I think the first book was great, as it was heartbreaking, inspiring, and a beautiful love story. This was all of those things too, but it felt just too similar to the first book. The timeline was a little confusing, there were some references to pup culture during the 2012-2014 tie period but it was supposed to be set in 2010. Also, something similar to the first book, there were SO MANY side characters with their own chapters from their pov and it became difficult to keep up. There should have been less side character pov chapters. We do get cameos and more info/backstory about Rafael and Mateo from the original book. We also get more info about the beginning of “Death cast”, but it’s still pretty unclear about how or why it works. I would like to read how death cast works or more about how Joaquin Rosa came up with it. I’d say this was good, but it wasn’t really necessary or as groundbreaking as the first book.

Age rating: 14+ (grief, very unnecessarily large amount of foul language, etc.)

Massive trigger warning for 9/11!!! There was so much mentioning of this in detail, so be warned about that!

I’m baffled. Once again Adam has brought me to tears, broken my heart and then glued it back together with a beautiful ending. I definitely didn’t see it all coming. Especially everything with Paz. I don’t know what to say honestly. It’s all just wow. I think I like this one better than Tbdate honestly. This one feels less rushed. Both are still super good tho. I really enjoyed making connections between the books and seeing their relationship evolve. The characters are so lovable (well all except one person but you’ll see that when you read it). It makes me happy to see that even people that didn’t enjoy Tbdate are enjoying this one. Personally I’ve enjoyed both and I’m excited for the third book!
