This is a book for the women who were once girls obsessed with horses. Like me.
Let me start by saying that I did truly enjoy this book. It was well written with an intense sense of realism. I did, however, find bits of it predictable, but I was not disappointed in the least.
The only aspect I did not enjoy was the intense tearfulness of the main character. If she were real, she would have perished from dehydration from the amount of time spent crying in only 300-some-odd pages. However, I can say that I was surprised at how much I was able to relate to a character that had attributes very different from mine. Gruen did an excellent job portraying the protagonist's point of view, and I had a hard time putting it down.

Though I enjoyed the first half, I felt like the second half (and its attendant tragedies) was all in service of solving the protagonist's love life and that made me kind of sick.
