Aya and Will have returned to Tala but it has changed in their absence, as have their duties. Hiding their true feelings for each other, they must navigate treacherous politics and obey Gianna's commands while desperately trying to uncover her plans for the Second Saint and what this means for Aya.
This book is absolutely brilliant! It's just as good as the first and chunkier (more Will and Aya!) which I loved. It captured my attention straight away, starting with shocking drama as Will is punished for not keeping in contact with Gianna while in Trahir. There is tension that brews between Aya and Will as well as some exquisite angst towards what will happen between them and if they can survive what Gianna puts them through. I was there for it and loved every second.
Aya and Will were so fantastic in this sequel and I just adored reading about them. I hated the mistrust that developed, putting a strain on their relationship which was compounded by the secrets they were concealing from each other. But the few tender moments they had were beautiful and I especially relished the part near the end on one of the islands where they are finally on an equal footing after confiding in each other. There were so many perilous moments in this book involving these two and each had very high stakes that I was riveted. Honestly, I could read about these two amazing characters all day.
We also get to see Aidon and Josie in Trahir and while I missed the group all being together, it worked well with the split between the two pairs, with more of a focus on Aya and Will in Tala. I felt for Aidon and Josie, both battling with their own struggles: Aidon with his magic and Josie with her broken relationship. Again, these are keeping things from each other and I could feel a rift between the two on the page which disheartened me because these two siblings are normally so wonderful together! I was invested in Aidon's opposition to his magic and his endeavour to win over the people of Trahir following on from the volatile and stunning events at the end of the first book.
There was such a good pace to this book, a bit slower than the first but it worked well, allowing us time to digest things more and enjoy the building tension as we were left to keep guessing. Again, the writing was superb and the characters magnificent.
The only thing that nagged at me was how no one noticed Will going into Aya's room and failing to leave. Aya was followed around by guards all the time and at one point there was no mention of how Will evaded being seen by them or how he left her room and then managed to return without being seen (because they were hiding their relationship). I felt a little frustration that this detail was missed, but that's the only gripe I have with this book - it's otherwise stellar.
I was right alongside Aya and Will as they tried to work out Gianna's plans for Aya and I kept pontificating what was going to happen the whole way through, but I was still shocked at the end! It was an explosive conclusion, leaving us begging for more and I cannot wait to find out what happens in the last book. A glorious sequel.

TOOK TOO LONG.

I feel like everything in this book took too long to accomplish. Most of these characters were having the same thought throughout but weren’t actually getting anywhere to get it done until near the end when I was like FINALLY.
The romance continued well. I liked it overall. There’s good tension while still working together and figuring each other out. And I do like Aya and Will as complex characters. I mostly like the other point of view characters too. So while the book isn’t bad and has good bones and good moments, the length of this sucker started to wear on me. I hope the next book changes the pace a bit to move things around rather than feel stagnant.
Overall audience notes:
- Fantasy Romance
- Language: high
- Romance: 3+ open door
- Violence: high

i received an advanced listening copy from the publisher via netgalley in exchange for an honest review. this did not affect my rating.
this is the sequel to the curse of saints.
after discovering she’s prophesied to save the realm, aya’s duty should be clear: return home with will to serve their queen in the coming war. but aya’s not so sure about this duty, and has questions about the prophecy and her queen. as she and will are forced to lie to everyone, they work on uncovering the truth before dark magic destroys them all.
i really loved the curse of saints last year, so i was very excited to get to this sequel! the plot was so captivating, and the tension between aya and will was incredible. they have to keep their relationship a secret, and i’m such a sucker for the secret relationship trope. i can’t wait to see where the story goes in book three!
narration: devon sorvari returned to narrate this book. i think her narration fits so well for the story and for aya!
I skim-reread Curse of Saints before diving into this which was probably a mistake because even though I'd enjoyed it the first time around, I couldn't help but feel frustrated at a few aspects of the writing and characterisation.
Aya still does not seem a great spy, we're just told she is, Will and Aya's relationship is grounded entirely in years of not communicating and mistrust and 15% in the story hasn't developed from where we left off at the end of book 1, and given how long this book is that makes me kind of dread how slow the plot might be. It's time I stopped trying to force myself to continue because of the imagined payoff of a twisty story with shock value.

Hooooo-eee!
Throne of Glass fans, this is a series for you! A solid series so far, Sins ends on a rough cliffhanger, but the twist was something I certainly didn’t expect!
*heavy applause* to Kate!

Not gonna lie, I forgot a lot of what happened in Book 1 and probably should have read a recap before starting SINS, but I was just so excited that my library had the audiobook available that I jumped on it.
The Curse of Saints Trilogy is perfect for Throne of Glass fans! If you love enemies to lovers to secret lovers then this book is right up your alley.
I had my jaw dropped multiple times in this book. And the ending!! The cliffhanger!! I need Book 3!!! I did not see that plot twist coming at the end nor did I predict any of the deaths.
I loved Aya. I loved Will. I wanted to fight Gianna the entire time. Adrian reminds me of Dorian from TOG in the best ways. Ngl I hated Tova but she deserved better.
I can’t wait to see what’s in store for the final book!
