I had no idea what to expect when jumping into the next installment after The Curse of Saints. Yet throughout I was given more broad world building, vivid explanations of the god-given magic system, & characters new and old that showed so much depth/humility that you could only feel for them each individually.
This book had me going through a whirlwind of emotions and I ended up finishing it much faster than I expected, ( shorter chapters are my love language ) & it only goes to show how immersive Kate’s writing truly is. She perfectly balances that need for fantasy with romance so I never felt there was a lack thereof.
The ENDING?? I am not kidding when I was left just staring at the ceiling contemplating my first impressions. So unexpected, so brilliant on Kate’s part. I need the third book like I need air.

I had so much more problems with this book than with the first one. The curse of saints was really, really good. But the curse of sins… I have many things to say.
Let’s start with positive ; the plot was predictable, and the twist also, but somehow it still felt like a real good one. The Evie thing [trying to get as less spoilers as possible] was a real good thinking, i liked it. The last 100 pages were amazing, i must admit. I really enjoyed them. Kate Dramis is a real good battle-writer and it felt like it every time the characters had to battle. I also enjoyed the relationships— between Will & Aya, Josie & Aidon etc— it felt human. Bonus point also for the descriptions, i loved them.
BUT.
When I chose this serie, I did not expect it to have that much sex scenes. Like, oh my god. I thought it was good at first, to see how Will & Aya developed their relationship. But that is also what put me to dnf the book before picking it up again after 3/4 months. Some of them felt REALLY unnecessary, and made me uncomfortable af. The Tova/Aya problem also made me sigh so many times. And as good as the 100 last pages were, it also was like a whole new plotting happening while Dramis was writing. No clues, no nothing was mentioned before. It felt like reading a book for +14, with sex scenes.
After all, a good book but not really my style i guess. Looking forward for the next volume, just to see how everything’s end.

I loved the story of this book, especially the last 200 pages or so. However, it needed further proofreading in my opinion and it sometimes spoiled it for me and pulled me out of the story so much I had to put down the book. An example, having an entire paragraph repeating itself is poor.
Couldn't stand words being altered to fit the world religion. It was cringy and would ruin the mood every single time.

Un suite parfaite, on replonge dans le même décor, les personnages continuent d’évoluer.
Les plot-twists sont interessants, j’ai hâte de lire la suite

The second saint gets into some real shit in this book. What a cliffhanger. Gianna’s role is a little obvious, but with characterization this strong, who cares? (Also love the pretty clear LOTR/Gondor/Rohan-esque nature of these kingdoms)
