again i read this after watching the tv series so obviously i felt indifferent about book eloise, this felt kind out of character for her to do lolol but i kinda loved it. even tho i always saw eloise as the one sister who wouldn’t marry, her marrying philip made perfect sense

Eloise is my favorite Bridgerton, and I'm sad to say I was somewhat disappointed with her book. I was expecting more whitty banter from her and her prospective husband. Instead she becomes pen pals with a very sad widowed man. The 2nd half of the book was much better. It became an almost reverse Cinderella story with Eloise as the nice step mother and the children as the rotten children who become nice. In the end, I liked it. The beginning was a bit rough.

This is so far the worst book of the series. Phillip is a giant red flag and I can't stand him.
He was a horrible father that completely neglected his children.
All his reasons to marry Eloise made me mad, he just wanted somebody to take care of his children and his home so that he could be even more of an absent father, I guess just add absent husband to the description since he just spent all day with his plants and only interacted with  her for sex at night.
I did not like reading about Marina's condition, I understand that in that time they had no good understanding of mental health and depression but Phillip is already so unlikeable to me that adding his attitude and opinions on Marinas condition made me dislike him more. There also the fact that he r*ped her and clearly knew she was not into it because he did not seek her out again but that just makes me think why did he not stop when she didn't respond to him during it?!

I didn't really mind Eloise but she was not what I expected, she just turned out to be a pretty common regency lady that just liked to talk a little to much. I guess I expected her to be more like the show and have more of a questioning society ramblings rather than rambling about nothing important. I was also a little disappointed with the lack of Penelope/Eloise friendship on page, I expected at least some interaction between them but I guess not.
