Oh my goodness, where to begin?! This one definitely threw me for an emotional loop, and I definitely give it a solid 4.75+ star rating! I went in mostly blind, only expecting there to be a huge twist and some deep emotions and I wasn't too disappointed.

Most definitely going to read more by this author.

This book! Oh my gosh.

I know the author said it would be something different for her but my goodness, nothing was what I expected in the absolute best way possible.

In summary, Kayla receives a letter from prison after her husbands death and begins a pen pal relationship with a man named Dante. But he life begins to unravel around her in the “months after her husbands death” and the secrets that are revealed are not at all what you would expect.

I understand that this was marketed as a romance or a dark romance, it was not. It was more of a paranormal suspense kind of business, with a romance element. But it was still a fascinating read. (Minus the bunny kink play, that made me roll my eyes, often.)

Unraveling this mystery before it was revealed was a hell of a time and every time I thought I got the story right, I realized I was missing a piece. The revelation at the end? Absolutely blindsided me. I missed some of the biggest clues of what was REALLY going, completely focused on other aspects of the story. And I’m mad that I hadn’t really seen the truth while putting all the pieces together about Aidan and Dante’s identity.

That revelation rocked me and brought me to tears. I figured Aidan was dead but not that Kayla was dead with him. I did not see that little twist coming.

I can also see how some readers might have been confused about the timeline of the story. The events between Kayla and Aidan’s past and what she was narrating WAS a tad bit head scratching when you realize that Kayla is dead and not Michael. But, like Fiona said, Ghosts are unreliable narrators and have created a story of their own to cope.

I wish the author had maybe elaborated more on Michael’s state of mind post the secret reveal, the last 15% felt like a summarization of what should certainly have been explained but all in all, it wasn’t a bad read.

Though not my favorite book by this author, this was a phenomenal read. Quick and easy page turner, so gripping you won’t want to put it down. Definitely a must read.

Pet names really give me the ick. But the story was very unexpected with solid twists and lots of intense spice. I really didn't like the mental illness rep in this. It was an unnecessary element and the behavior that resulted from it could have happened for other reasons. There is already so much stigma around mental illness, authors really need to not weaponize it when there can be other ways to achieve your character arcs. J.T Geissinger and I get along great I have read several of her books before and have loved them. When I say this took me out of the usual writing style of hers that I’m use to, that would be an understatement.
What you get from the synopsis is just a glimpse of what this book is. While yes the MFC is a widow and we meet her on the day of her husbands funeral, and she does have a pen pal in prison, that’s where the book takes a turn I never saw coming.
While reading this book I kept waiting for the pen pal to show up. Kayla meets a roofer, Aidan, they start a relationship and while I liked where they were going I kept asking myself where the hell is this pen pal and where are these “ intimate“letters. It takes until about 75% -80% through this book that it comes together.
If I knew that the majority of the characters in this book were ghosts and it was about them realizing they were dead I wouldn’t have picked it up, it’s just not my style.
While I did give this book four stars for the well written style and the shock of it all coming together it’s just not my cup of tea.

I enjoyed this book however I really feel like the description of the book is very misleading. I felt like I was sold one book only to receive another. The story ended up having some major twists and left me crying to the point I almost threw up
