This is fine and kids will undoubtedly enjoy this spooky collection of tales. It is simply not my cup of cocoa and I'm going to pass on the rest of the story.

I listened to the audio (read by the extremely talented author) and found this tale to be "un-put-downable". Christian McKay Heidicker has tapped into a storytelling genius on the level of Roald Dahl's 'The Witches', with just enough chill to captivate readers and listeners looking for a scary story-but just enough hope to make it alright again. PERFECT for young readers/listeners and their families. I can't wait to read more from this author!
This book is just not my cup of tea, but I I did really like Uly and Mia and can see why so many people loved it.
A litter of foxes-tired of the scary stories their mother tells them-visits the famous storyteller in Antler Wood. The storyteller begins to share the journeys and adventures of two kits: Uly and Mia. The story, which lasts all night, scares off the kits one by one until only the youngest is left to hear the entire story.
Enough scary sections to keep the reader on edge; but there are hints of hopefulness among the (often) brutal truth.

This book took awhile to get into but once I accepted it more as a novel with dual protagonists and less of a collection of short stories I enjoyed it. It’s not scary by any adult standards but the characters are plucky and the situations they face are horrifying at times. Be ready for lots of fox puns and fox word play. It can get annoying. Fun spooky if not scary read for the Halloween season.

Honestly, it took a lot for me to get through this book. I really was not a fan and I'm not entirely sure what the high ratings on here are about. Sure, kids that love horror books are going to enjoy this one. However there are some really horrible things that happen in this story. The only thing that saved this from being a 1-star rating was the ending. I really didn't think it would end that way.
