In terms of a youth thriller this story falls extremely short. The first two stories do have some good scares but almost every other story falls flat. However, this book was great for a feel-good coming-of-age. I enjoyed watching the adventures of Uly and Mia even if the scares fell short. Maybe some younger kids would enjoy the scares more but for an older audience at least they can enjoy a cute coming-of-age.
This one just didn't grab me...I think the animal main characters are not my favorite, so to read outside my genre with that isn't for me. It wasn't bad, so I might come back to it if enough students told me I HAD to read it.

I am torn between 3 or 4 stars for this book. Initially, I thought the book was strange and couldn’t imagine an age group that I thought would enjoy it - too scary for some littles, too juvenile for middle school students. About 3/4 of the way in though, I was taken! The creepy factor was just enough and the character development and relationships were established enough that I was continuously drawn back to the book in order to find out what would happen to Mia and Uly. The end left me quite satisfied and feeling fondly toward the book as a whole.
