So when I first started reading I kept checking the back of the book to see if it was definitely the right book as it seemed like a completely different book. It starts with a war story and takes over 100 pages to get to Dennie’s story. Once I got past that confusion I started really getting into the book and found it quite gripping. Not for the faint hearted, but overall I would recommend it.

The summary is misleading because the main character does not show up until almost half way through the story. This story was less horror and more mystery thriller. All-in-all quite boring and not what I expected.

Bone Harvest covers many horrors; war, dementia, ritual, ancient evil festering on an abandoned allotment. I really enjoyed the premise and a lot of directions Brogden took this book in, but from a narrative standpoint it failed to fully grip me (I think this is evident in how long it took me to read). I enjoyed the horror elements and as per The Plague Stones, I also loved the writing style! I just struggled to keep track of characters and plot points, and as a result didn’t feel gripped. This one just didn’t land as fully as I wanted it to, but still a strong recommend for fans of cult or folk horror. Trigger warnings for animal deaths, gore, and dementia.
