Well this was a massive disappointment as this was one of my highly anticipated reads. Landon & Shay: Part One follows Landon and Shay who hate each other but become embroiled in a bet to see who can make the other fall in love first. The main issues with this book is the lack of connect for the relationship between the main characters. The writing for them and the dialogues just fell flat and the way the antagonist, Monica was so ridiculous that it just made it worse.

Das Buch ist von der ersten Seite an packend. Von Anfang an kann man die Handlungen, Gefühle und Gedanken der Protagonisten gut nachvollziehen und wird in ihren Bann gezogen. Durch sehr viel Feingefühl schafft es Brittainy Cherry die schweren Themen wie Depression, Sucht und Selbstmord anzusprechen und zeigt auf, dass man Menschen ihren psychischen Zustand nicht immer ansehen kann. Was ich sehr spannend fand war, das der Großteil der Geschichte aus Landons Sicht erzählt wurde und nicht aus Shays. Und trotz all der Probleme, die die beiden haben kann man gar nicht anders, als sich am Ende in die beiden und ihre Geschichte zu verlieben.
Puh.. Die Geschichte von Shay und Landon hat mich auf vielen Ebenen sehr berührt. Hier werden wieder sehr ernste und vor allem auch wichtige Themen angesprochen, weswegen man sich die Triggerwarnung bei Bedarf genauer anschauen sollte.
Shay hat ein tolles Leben. Sie ist glücklich, hat eine tolle Familie und auch sonst alles was man braucht. Das denkt zumindest Landon. Landon, der schon auf den ersten Blick ein Arsch ist und den Shay einfach nicht besser beschreiben kann als mit dem Spitznamen "Satan". Die beiden hassen sich und lassen kein gutes Haar am anderen. Doch dann schließen sie eine Wette ab, die alles durcheinander bringt.
Brittanys Schreibstil hat mich wieder sofort in seinen Bann gezogen. Ich kenne niemanden, der so wunderschöne Sätze schreibt und mir so oft die Tränen in die Augen treibt. Sie schafft es immer mich wirklich enorm emotional zu machen und das liebe ich einfach. Man fühlt sich einfach so verbunden mit ihren Charakteren und diesmal konnte man besonders Landons Emotionen stark spüren finde ich. Ich mochte die Geschichten der beiden wahnsinnig gerne und auch die Nebencharaktere waren auf ihre Art und Weise einfach toll. Naja zumindest einige, bei anderen kam dauerhaft Wut in mir auf

KU. I know I am not in the majority here. I really wanted to DNF this book, but I decided to trek on with the hopes that the novel would be worth the time spent reading it. IMO it was not. I should’ve put the book down at 45%. I was bored to tears for the vast majority of the novel.
While the very beginning peaked my interest, my attention quickly left the building just as I had stepped inside of its doors. I appreciated Brittainy C. Cherry for tackling important topics like complex family situations, the death of a loved one, bullying, and mental health issues, but the book dragged... a lot, and I guess I never felt connected to either character.
