... one guard asked me
... what if communism collapses all over the world
...I said
... that has nothing to do with my ideology

Wow. That's all I have to say. The stories of such young children and their trauma makes one reconsider their definition of struggle and sacrifice. The last section of the book went over my head and I will eventually reread when I have gained more life experience and historical context. Deserving of all awards it has received thus far.

This is poetry and theory and art all together.

Never more timely. Don Mee Choi's DMZ Colony is a revelation of language, meaning, history, and memory. The convergence of all of those things is brought together in this book that deserves all it has won and more. There are so many poems, and types of poems in this project. It honestly has no equal and stands on its own as one of the all-time greats.
