Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky

Since I was a kid, Dostoyevsky was an author that was glorified even by those who didn't read him. However, I might disagree about the depth of this novel. Raskolnikov is a petty character whose ideas shouldn't be praised or followed, and in no case used as excuses for any kind of crime. The "common-ness" of his ideas and the baneful explanation that he gives to justify it make the novel superficial, horrible.

Great novel. Fyodor Dostoevsky knows how the mind works. Great characters as well who you feel empathy with. Highlights the theme of Alienation, Faith, poverty, and family well. A must-read book for all book lovers. 4.5 Stars

Amazing!! I can't believe I haven't read this classic before, and now I'm looking forward to reading more Dostoevsky, it's so interesting and bold and thought provoking

It took me a while to read this, and honestly I have just never read anything like this before. The deliriousness of it all and the magnanimity of actually finishing it.....sigh. It strongly feels like a book that will offer something each time you read it, so there is a definite possibility of revisit, cause lord that was something.

Bad translation. OK narrative. Confusing most of the time, even individuals who was not the one in delirium. Author mentioned that happiness is bought with suffering - I can see that this was the intention, but nonetheless not so well achieved, nor do I believe so to be the case.

Dark. Broody. Torment and despair. In short, I loved it.
