I found this book to be quite dry. The author rarely refers to the main character by her name "Mary" and only refers to her as "the widow", which caused some disassociation for me. I didn't really get to know her. I found myself just finishing this book so I could finish this book.

A friend just read this and loved it.

Wow. I loved this. The writing was very good, and it was super plot-driven (a plus for me), and I loved how we still didn't know the whole story at the end (which usually really bugs me).

Loved this. A woman on the run in the Old West--not normally my cup of tea. But it was all so sparsely beautiful and compelling. Also I loved the character, who was more nuanced than young women are often allowed to be. One of those books you can't put down because you care about the character too much to leave her in peril.

The characters all felt distant, and that pushed me away from the story. Despite that it's very enjoyable, amazing for a first novel, I'll definitely read more by her.

Es fing gut an und ich mochte den Stil, aber in der zweiten Hälfte wird es schwächer und der Schluss ist so ein Schluss von der Sorte "mir doch egal, ich hab jetzt keine Lust mehr und der Verlag drängelt".
