Been reading it as slowly as I can, but finished it today. Hopefully the next one turns up at the thrift shop soon!

I must admit, I found this one a lot easier to read than the previous three. Maybe because I'm more familiar with the terrain and history, or that there was a lot less Gaelic and French to read this time around.
I continue to love the characters, and I'm intrigued to see how this is going to continue... maybe the characters will actually communicate with each other properly?! But then where will we get our big plot moments? I will keep reading them until too many of my favorites die.

3 1/2 stars
I just have to start this by quoting another reviewer:
“Gabaldon’s sex-ridden, hugely researched, academically adventurous, time traveling, historical romance novels qualify as trash novels for lit nerds”
It so perfectly describes how I feel about this entire series – it’s a guilty pleasure I indulge in whenever I can.
What I liked about book 4:
I adored young Ian, the Indians and the description of life out in the colonies of new America. I also started liking Lord John Grey more and more as the series progressed. There were quite a few whopper twists in the tale that left me utterly speechless wanting to listen to the story at odd times because I could not put it down.
What I didn’t like:
As the entire book is really plotted around multiple misunderstandings, and whilst I understand this method creates suspense in a tale, it left me irritated at times.
The first 1/3 of the book had a much slower pace than The Voyager and I know that if I had read this book rather than listening to it, the drawn out pace would have left me frustrated. I also really struggled to like Rodger and only started doing so towards the end of the book.
As a series I can highly recommend the audio version!

I honestly struggled to keep reading and finish this book. I love the characters and the story, but there just wasn't enough to keep me enticed. I'm glad I pushed through though, but it was all rather anticlimactic. I hope the next book is much more interesting!
My least favorite in the series so far and definitely a slower read for me. There were parts of the book that were really frustrating, but the ending was satisfying. It was interesting to see Jamie and Claire in a new context. Am I supposed to like Roger??? Because I did not.
I gave up on this book, sorry to say. I loved the first three in the series but this one was really meandering and didn't give the reader any of the things that are great about the series -- adventure, passion, sexy love scenes. I would like to know how the series ends, however. I might try this one again once in a few months when I'm further removed from the other books in the series.
