This was a freebie that sounded like a police procedural when I read the summary. And actually, despite being called "romantic suspense," it really was a police procedural and I actually really enjoyed it except for a few moments where it was easy to tell that the dialogue was only there to fill the reader in. (So unrealistic!) I'm going to assume it was less romantic than the author's other books, because that's the only explanation I could see. I'll be listening to the rest of the series, at the very least.
