Easily one of the best characters ever written. A tragedy that I couldn't give up on. Demon is so real and fully flesh and bone in my mind with a unique voice. Loved the commentary on the opioid epidemic.

Beautiful, heart-wrenching bildungsroman about a boy growing up in Appalachia. There's so much heart in this book. Definitely recommended.

I really liked this book, but had rather complicated feelings about it for most of my time reading it, but ultimately I found it really wonderfully written and well-paced, just very very sad. As someone who admittedly doesn't read much literary fiction at my big age, this book reminded me that i think I find literary fiction difficult because I live in the world these characters do and wonder what their lives would be like right now in the moment I'm reading.

The only other bone I have to pick with this book is that I really wish i could read Demon's comics. I really appreciate a book that acknowledges the power of graphic novels and comics as a medium in such a concrete way, especially in a world where comics and graphic novels are still seen as media for children. I thought that was cool and would really like to read a really good graphic novel now.
