An incredible read, with character development as strong as any book I've read. This book has changed my how I view the foster system, addiction, poverty, and personal trauma.

My boy Damon goes THROUGH IT. I’ll be honest, I didn’t know what year it was for the first quarter of the book, it was such a stark depiction of poverty. Odysseus in coal country.

This book is life-changing, genuinely. It captured my soul and explored it in a whole new way. There are some parts that I didn't love, but honestly, they are small and could never dilute the many many things in this book that I know will stick with me forever.

I know Kingsolver is well-loved, but this is my first book by her. I have never read David Copperhead, so I can't speak to that. While I do see the strength in her writing, the story felt heavy. Not just in the topics, but the was it was presented. Maybe that adds to the atmosphere? Either way, I could not fully engage with the characters and the story. I'm not sure I would quickly pick up another book of hers.
