This was a sweet and quick, fun holiday read. I had read the earlier books in this series a while ago but for some reason never got to this one. Then I saw it as a “holiday read” recommendation and downloaded it. I like the progress of the story though it seems like we miss a lot of “in between” stuff/moments as the time passes.

Ryan’s dislike of/distrust of/attraction to Danny makes for an interesting dynamic. And the way Danny is written the reader can empathize as you can’t be sure he isn’t playing some sort of mind game. When it finally appears Danny is serious and Ryan allows himself to let go, despite being sure he’s going to regret it, it’s a freeing moment. I would have liked to have seen more of their day by day relationship growth to better appreciate the anxiety Ryan has about Danny leaving to go home for Christmas and the situation with Danny’s parents at dinner.

I read the earlier book about Wes and Nick but it was a while ago and I have no memory of it which bummed me out as I would have appreciated some of the references to that situation better instead of feeling a bit lost or like I was missing out. So I’d encourage anyone wanting to read this book to read book 3 first. Not a necessity as this is a self contained story, but there are references so it might enhance your enjoyment here.

The ending is sweet though I wish the questions re Danny’s parents had an answer. But overall a nice holiday read.

Audio Review:

4.5. Leaning Into A Wish is the fifth book in the Leaning Into series by the fabulous Lane Hayes. I had the pleasure of listening to this book on audio and I enjoyed the hell out of it. It has some of my favorite things: sexy men, wine, and wishes. Ryan loves his job at the Napa Valley winery. But he doesn't love the sexy new intern, Danny. He's too nice, too good looking and everyone else loves him. But when it seems that Danny won't take no for an answer and wants to hang out and be friends, Ryan starts to melt a little. But Danny is straight and he can't start to fall for him. That would be very bad. Until Danny starts to sit closer, touch him more and then kisses him. Ok, maybe he's not straight. Danny just can't seem to stay away from the prickly Ryan. There's something about him that makes him want to be around him all the time. He's not the first man he's been with, but it's more than just attraction. Danny is just an intern and is supposed to be leaving after the holidays. So, what harm could a few wishes and some fun do? I really enjoyed this fast paced, sexy and fun romance. Nick J. Russo did a great job narrating it. He is great at multiple voices and I love this breathy thing he does. I will definitely be reading more from Lane Hayes and listening to more from Nick Russo!

OMG…this is the sweetest holiday read yet and I loved it! Ms. Hayes is one of my auto-buy authors; I just love her writing! Even though I would love to see more of these two, this felt like a complete story and was low angst which I appreciated. I have a hard time giving a novella 5 stars but that's the only reason it didn't get 5 from me.

Ryan wasn’t anyone’s favorite but we get to see him in a new light and I kind of love him now. He’s sweet and can be fun loving when he lets go of his stuffiness. He’s a great friend to Geordie and just what Danny needs (even though he won’t admit it at first).

Danny is awesome. He grew up trying to fulfill someone else’s dream until it became too much for him. The pressure his parents put on him is too much. He’s finally going to live for himself and go after what he wants.

These two are pretty perfect for each other and I hope we see more of them in future books of the series.

This was a nice, fun quick read, but I didn't find anything stand out-ish or special about this one. It was fairly formulaic, fairly standard. Ryan and Danny had okay chemistry but they didn't really get my blood going. They had some fun interactions but nothing else that wowed me or made me really like them.

It was nice to know that the way Ryan acted in Nick and Wes's book was really just jealousy and he apologized for it in this book - even if it's two and a half years late.

These two got to the "I love you" stage, I thought, too quickly. Not in time but in interactions. Their interactions didn't feel enough for them to have gotten to that stage so quickly, which is why for me it didn't feel like much when they uttered the words. They didn't feel earned.

I dunno, this wasn't as good for me as Lane Hayes's books usually are. Nice and fun with good writing structure but that is about it, and it making my want Geordie's story all the more. This book is almost on par with the last one - although I liked Josh's story a little more, even.

Okay story that is a nice quick read, but that was about it for me.

I was not a fan of Ryan Haskell in Leaning into the Fall. He was not nice to Nick, and tried to break him up from Wes. He wasn't all the endearing in the beginning of this, either. He was grumpy and cranky, especially toward Danny. Danny broke through his defenses, though, thankfully.

Danny was such a fun character. He had a real zest for life and a great sense of humor. Once he got Ryan feeling comfortable and friendly, all bets were off. They were great together. I loved watching them fall in love, and I LOVED the ending. Great addition, even if we didn't see too much of Nick and his friends (like the rest of the series).

I just love the way Lane Hayes writes and how she's able to make me feel quite radically different about a character who has previously been a bit of an arse.

In this instance it's Ryan, who acted like a real jerk for a while as Wes and Nick were slowly falling in love and who then developed an inappropriate crush for Finn.

He's bewildered by the beautiful intern Danny, a former pro tennis player who is determined to keep what he feels about Ryan out in the open.

Ryan is such a daft apeth, he can't quite let himself believe that Danny really does have feelings for him, and it takes a bit of conniving by Geordie to finally get him to admit it.

There's lots of gorgeous detailing squeezed into the novella and it flows at a wonderful pace from start to finish and into a truly sweet epilogue.

I can't wait for Grant's book now which I believe is coming early next year.
