Loved this book! D.L. Does a marvelous job of bringing comedy to this incredibly serious issue. So many excellent points and stories and it’s been written so recently that these are all moments that have happened very recently. I am probably going to read it again soon just because I liked it so much.

If you're a white person trying your best to learn about the daily struggle of black Americans to avoid being shot for no good reason… read this book.

Written by a comedian, this sarcastic, witty, hilarious, but simultaneously painfully serious book about the systemic oppression of Black Americans definitely opened my eyes. I read this book in one night, and then bought the Kindle version. While it seems geared more toward black Americans, I feel like this book is more useful for white Americans since most of us aren't forced to think about how different our lives would be if we were black. Well, this book forces you to think about it.

Not really satirical. This book is understandably depressing. I'm not sure that white people will even get it, because usually their experiences with cops are on a different wavelength.

While entertaining (especially as I listened to the author read it), it's also a serious sobering look at racism in our country. Especially relevant as so many of us are wearing masks and men of color have to think seriously about their safety doing that in ways I would never consider.

So glad I listened to the audiobook, narrated by D.L. Hughley- hearing him made it so much better than if I had just been reading it.

This book is funny- funny in the sense that if we don't laugh, we'll cry. The ridiculous recommendations from white people as to how Black people should be acting to avoid being shot, run-ins with police, etc. Really just highlight how (despite how well meaning) out of touch the white community is. Many of the suggestions are, sadly, the garbage I grew up hearing from my family, are the same things I repeated even into adulthood. The problem is, until you actually really and truly begin to learn about the Black experience, the suggestions are all laughable. And almost, to a degree, a little demeaning- like POC have never even considered how to be less of a target.

Hughley also makes some excellent counter arguments to suggestions given to Black people and commentary on how the criticism against racism is so flawed.

Very tongue in cheek, sarcastic writing which is right up my alley. I suggest listening to the audiobook because the author does a great job of narrating.
