Such a full-circle, bittersweet, beautiful book. Cannot recommend enough.

While the main characters in this book didn't have a significant emotional impact on me, I found them to be well-developed and their actions understandable, even if I didn't necessarily like all of them. However, I felt that the side characters lacked depth and could have been more fleshed out, with the exception of the character of Claire who stood out to me.

One aspect that disappointed me was the atmosphere of the book. Set in Iran after the 1953 coup, the political turmoil depicted was confusing and difficult for me, as a reader from the West, to fully understand. I believe the author could have provided more informative context about the political atmosphere of Iran during that time, considering that the characters in the story cared deeply about it.

In the first quarter of the book, the writing was immersive and enjoyable, drawing me into the story. However, as the book progressed, I found it to be long-winded and slow-paced, which made me feel bored at times. I would recommend opting for the audiobook version rather than a physical read, as it may enhance the overall experience.

Although the plot had potential, I was able to predict every single plot twist, which lessened the impact for me. Furthermore, the love story didn't have the desired punch or emotional impact on me. It's worth mentioning that I read another book set in Iran around the same time, which was much more immersive and informative about that period, and it may have influenced my perception of this book.

Despite my criticisms, I still consider this a good book and would recommend it if you're interested in reading it.

4-Stars. Interesting historical fiction love story starting in Iran and ending in the US. But that very history of Iran’s political uprising and strife, while interesting, is also what I found to move a little slow. I enjoyed the back half immensely, which was much more about the lovely characters, their griefs, and their never-to-be love.

If you are looking for a book that will make you smile, gasp, laugh, rethink your life, and cry your heart out for at least 5 minutes, this is the book. One of my all time favorites and I want to get the entirety of it tattooed on my body.
