I’ve read and enjoyed Carr’s historical novels, but this was my first experience with a story set in modern times. I found the set up and progression through the book interesting, but didn’t find the final outcome satisfying. It seemed that it revolved around a minor technicality and there were plot points left unresolved. Disappointing that the payoff was insufficient after so much build up.

I struggled to try and finish this and unfortunately could not. I found it very hard to stay interested as it seemed there was too much detail put into things that weren't relevant to what was going on.

Second time trying to read this and although it took a good week, I managed to get through it.
I'm glad I did - yes, the parts with the cheetah felt unnecessary, but they definitely added to the story. all in all a bit wordy but it was good.

This book was such a chore! I have lived Carr in the past, but this was dreadful. I'm hoping this is a fluke.

DNF. I have liked other books by him, but couldn’t get into this one.
