Unfortunately slow with characters you never get behind and predictable, odd ending.

Child abuse handled in bad taste in my opinion. Just dumped in as a convenient plot explainer with no real resolution and an air of victim blame

A well-crafted, creative take on Gothic, reminiscent of Sarah Waters; but also, subtly, a nod to 1960s pulp Gothic suspense-romances-- with a few nice twists thrown in. The excellently pulled-together ending was a lovely surprise, writing-wise, meaning: so often you do not find that with debut literary novels.
