An incredibly good set of short stories I will forever remember as "what I was reading during Charlottesville 2017."

I don't think I'll ever be the same after the last chapter (also titled "Going to Meet the Man").
If the rest of this near-perfect collection of shorts doesn't open your eyes to the variables of human conditions, I'm positive the last chapter will pry your eyes out.

Sonny's Blues was my favorite of these short stories, but they were, of course, all amazing.
3.5. Some sentences were beautiful, but most of the stories felt unfinished in a tantalizing way.
The hold this man has on my reading taste is insane. This whole collection is a magnificent example of the empathy rooted throughout Baldwin’s writing.

This was my first time reading Baldwin, and I enjoyed it but didn't love it. That being said, I tend not to like short stories as much as novels, so this was not entirely surprising.
This is a nice collection of stories narrated from a variety of perspectives, including several from black children, one from the brother of a heroin addict, and the particularly disturbing title story whose protagonist was a racist white cop.
Most of the stories were thought-provoking, but I didn't find any of them to be extremely powerful. I look forward to reading more Baldwin to see if I like any of his other works better.
