"The Man Child", "Sonny's Blues", "Come out the Wilderness", and "Going to Meet the Man" really knocked it out of the park for me.

Part of me wishes that I had read all of the Baldwin books years ago so that I could be rereading them now. Most of me recognizes that now is a fairly perfect intersection between my readiness for Baldwin and Baldwin's forever increasing relevance. His work seems more vital and more alive and more necessary this summer than any other work I have ever known.
I have yet to read a word of his work that I do not hope to reread many times over. "Sonny's Blues" is my favorite short story ever, and there are several pieces here that--though perhaps narrower in scope--stand shoulder-to-shoulder with it.
There is no one better than Baldwin.

Idk how to review this one. I love Baldwin’s writing style and vivid descriptions. I don’t know how much I enjoyed the actual story itself. It felt disjointed at times. The ending is absolutely gut wrenching. My first Baldwin work, but I would read more.
Excellent collection of eight short stories. This book is a very good introduction to writing of James Baldwin.

The title story is one of the most emotional and important pieces of literature I've ever read. It's so vile and heartbreaking, absolute essential reading.

Certainly a book I will keep thinking about, but unsure I will revisit most of these except for Sonny’s Blues.
