A funny and honest look into the pageant world and the realities of being a plus size teenager. I really didn't care to read about a pageant, but the stereotype subversion and Dolly Parton songs made me pick up this book, and I don't regret reading it.

I was disappointed with this book.  I initially picked it up for two reasons.  One, I saw the movie and I thought it was a cute story.  And two, it was on the TIMES list of the 100 best YA books of all time.  To be honest, I don't think this book belongs on that list.  Which is too bad, the idea behind the book is great (Learning to be comfortable with who you are.).  Unfortunately, that message gets lost within the large amounts of explicit language, underage drinking, relationship drama, and sex talk.  Not to mention, the main character is almost as petty as those who bully her. (She does not judge to their faces, but she thinks it.)  I wanted to like this book...but it definitely fell short for me.
