Although I have been seeing some bad reviews on this book, I found myself enjoying it. Though I do feel a bit dissappointed by the fact that the writing itself wasn't as good as I had hoped. The part that grabbed me was most likely the facts that you got to have a look inside River's mind. I only wish that more time had been put into it overall.

I love river song, she did mention her boobs a few too many times and I dont think the angel fit well into the story but it was funny and an enjoyable short story.

Even though this book is affiliated with the TV show Doctor Who, it works pretty well as a standalone story - if you have a slight understanding of the show's baddies The Weeping Angels. It reads as a typical hard-boiled detective novel set in the 1930s, with Melody Malone's hilarious wit and way with words. As it says in the book and in the TV show, "She's got ice in her heart, and a kiss on her lips." and she is totally delightful - Melody's personality is wonderfully brought to life in this short mystery. The actual story had some surprises for me - the Angels involvement was really not what I was expecting. I wish there was more to this story, as Melody is such a fun character and I didn't want it to end!

Novels often make wonderful films and TV series, but films and TV series rarely make good novels. I wasn't expecting much from The Angel's Kiss - just a light-hearted excursion with River-but-not-River - and I got no more or less than I'd hoped for.
My main criticism is that I really didn't like the author's depiction of River-but-not-River. Yes, River is sexy and witty and very comfortable in her own skin. But the way she was written seemed really... off. I just feel like the author doesn't have a good grip in River as a character.
(Yes, I know the story isn't TECHNICALLY about River, but it also IS, y'know?)
I also felt the story was too easily resolved, but I suppose that's all one can expect from a hastily-written TV spin-off novella.
I still enjoyed it, though.

”New York was growling outside, but I was ready for it. My stocking seams were straight, my lipstick was combat-ready, and I was packing cleavage that could fell an ox at twenty feet.”

I love River Song so freaking much. I loved reading her charm, sass, and flirtatious remarks. I miss her so much.

I found this to be a cute book seeing the Doctor read it on the show and fall in love with it (and Melody), however I found the actual mystery to be boring. The writing wasn’t that good and it felt rushed in the sense that there weren’t enough details where there should’ve been. It was really short and I was expecting the whole book the one the Doctor has in the episode with Amelia’s afterword included since I love a good cry.

Melody Malone is a private investigator and is called in to investigate a mystery involving film star, Rock Railton, who thinks someone is out to kill him. When Melody starts to investigate she realizes that something supernatural is going on and works to stop them before more people are hurt.

I'm a big Doctor Who fan so the idea of a mystery series surrounding one of the characters is a great concept to me. While not a huge fan of Melody Malone in the Doctor Who tv show I was looking forward to seeing what direction she was going to go in a mystery series. Turns out she's a PI in the 1930's and she's fun, FUN, FUN! Well she's very outgoing and oozing sexuality as she is in Doctor Who, and she is quite a good investigator.

I like that the story has the supernatural aspect with the "angels". The final twists were really interesting, and I'm hoping there will be more stories about Melody Malone. There is a lot of potential with the character and her job as a PI so I'm crossing my fingers there will be more stories.

Alex Kingston narrates this audiobook and as she plays Melody Malone in the tv series she's the perfect choice. She does a great job as a narrator and I'm looking forward to listening to her narrate again.

Recommended for supernatural mystery fans and Doctor Who fans.
