Another gem by Walter Isaacson! I learned so much - about Jennifer Doudna, CRISPR, and the delicate balance of competition and collaboration in science and biotech - and it’s all thanks to Isaacson’s writing. His style is so easy to read, and makes complex concepts so easily digestible.
Such an inspirational biography. When Doudna (and Charpentier) are awarded the Nobel Prize at the end - it brought a tear of pride to my eye. You can’t help but consider how Rosalind Franklin was likely sitting back and applauding from somewhere in the universe, and thinking “Finally”.

The book is informative and engaging, especially the first part. However, there is a clear bias towards American scientists. And at the end of the book, the author widens too much the theme of the book, which leads him to lose direction.

This was a truly fascinating book, made all the more compelling that its relevancy is right here and now and impacts all of us! The writing is quite excellent yet I still got a little lost in some of the scientific specifics.

I am not a scientist and generally not overly interested in science. However, I do like Walter Isaacson as a biographer. Even though this book is too long and too dry, I was happy to learn about a topic I wouldn't have normally delved into: gene editing. It was also interesting to understand more about the universal topic of problem solving.
