It's hard to rate this when I've never read the original Moby Dick. But now that I've read this VERY watered down (pun intended) version of the book I don't think there's much more I care to know.

I flicked through this very quickly as there's not much to it. The illustrations were good, and helped bring the story to life a little bit.

I thought reading a comic or manga style of the book would be a good way to get to know the story, but maybe I'll just watch the movie instead.

I kind of had to give up on this one. I really appreciate the depth of detail that Melville went into to give us the perfect picture of what life as a whaler would be like, but I definitely had to skip a couple parts. And I mean, I've been able to get through the full Les Miserables, the Iliad, the Odyssey, but yet this one just didn't hit right for me. It's also full of anti-blackness and racism and white supremacy. "Oh yeah well, it was written a long time ago -" it wasn't okay then, and it's not okay now. We don't have to stand by old books that are racist just because they are old.

In the amazing book Moby Dick by the author Herman Melville, the author recounts his story of being at sea.

In the first part of his book, the author, calling himself Ishmael, is in a small sea-side town and he is sharing a bed with a man named Queequeg. The author and Queequeg go to church and later set out on a ship captained by the pirate named Ahab, who is missing a leg, and very much wants to kill the whale which is named Moby Dick, and which is white. In the course of the book, the pirate Ahab encounters many hardships. His entire life is set around trying to kill a certain whale.

I think this is sad because this whale doesn’t have any emotions, and doesn’t know how bad Ahab wants to kill him. He’s just a poor big animal. And I feel bad for Ahab as well, because he thinks that his life will be better if he can kill this whale, but in reality it won’t help him at all.

I was very saddened by this book, and I felt many emotions for the characters. And I felt saddest of all when I read the boring chapters that were only descriptions of whales because I knew that the author was just trying to save us from his own sad story just for a little while.

This book made me think about my own life and then it made me feel glad for my own life.
