What a great anthology! Kate Clanchy categorizes these poems from conception through the first years. I enjoyed revisiting old favorites, like Coleridge's "Frost at Midnight," as well as discovering (for me) new ones. The collection does tend to favor some voices; there's a good number of wonderful Sharon Olds, Kathleen Jamie, and Frances Cornford, and while some of these poets write in a narrative arc necessitating the inclusion of multiple works, it did crowd out others that I was half expecting to see (Anne Bradstreet and Rita Dove, for instance). All in all, a great collection. I've been looking for a collection like this that focuses on pregnancy and childbirth and am happy to have come across this.
