I'm not sure how I feel about this. I mean I liked a lot of the book, but I also wasn't blown away. I didn't feel surprised by any of it. I thought the whole 'twist' (if it was intended to be a twist) was pretty obvious from the beginning. I liked the world and the lore, but I just feel like there's a lot of things that didn't have enough information. I'm not sure if I want to find out any of it either.

i was so mad at this book because until i read half of it i had no idea what was going on — i couldn’t understand where the story wanted to go or how the world worked. but the more i kept going, the more i appreciated the world building and the complexity of the story and the characters. i loved how everything ties together really well and it makes so much sense. at a certain point i started predicting some things and it made the experience even more enjoyable because i felt connected to the book in some way. i wasn’t sure i was going to love this but it was such a nice surprise

I 1-starred this book because it was a dnf for me. It was a dnf at Chapter 3. In Chapter 2, I guessed the big reveal. Chapter 3 confirmed it for me, so I read/watched a couple reviews hoping I was wrong, but I wasn't. Once I knew the ending/reveal, I had no ambition to continue the book.
This is not a fair rating for this book. If I hadn't caught onto certain aspects, I might have enjoyed reading on, and this book would probably earn better than 1-star. I was liking what I was reading.
So it deserves a fair chance. I may like it even knowing the ending.
One day it will get a second read, and hopefully a full read.

Intense resentment.
