This slender little novel packs a punch! The opening chapter is brutal, and the character of Amy is immediately recognizable to someone who also did a lot of babysitting in the 90s. Took off a star because the nonlinear device became a little too haphazard in places, but overall, the tension ratchets up effectively and Ben and Mira are heartbreakingly real.
This book is an example of why you can never trust reviews. I couldn't even bring myself to give it 2 stars.

As a horror movie aficionado, I was very intrigued by this plot/premise. I was a nanny in high school and LOVED movies like “When A Stranger Calls”, etc. so I really wanted to love this book - that said, it fell a little flat for me in the end.
It was a slow read, and the climax felt… anticlimactic after such a good build up. There were parts that I felt like I was trudging through and others that had me tearing through the pages to see what happened next, and the use of multiple timelines was very well-crafted.
All in all, I enjoyed this as someone with a deep appreciation for old-school horror flicks, but I found myself wanting a little more out of it. But cheers to the author for such a uniquely planned out story with well-executed timeline & POV swaps!

"panic is like the clingstone pit of a plum nestled in her stomach- her very core"
girl what the hell was this? It started off so strong and I can see how she wanted to weave in tension with the time skips and different perspectives, but it just made everything so obvious (a flashback chapter would mention something that would become important in the very next chapter), clunky with how much the time skipped around, and every chapter besides Ben's would just screech the pace to a halt. Her descriptions are amazing and I can see some of the characters being very well thought-out, but oof this should've been a short, short story
