This felt more like several books in one, with different personalities for each alternate story.
I wouldn't be surprised if the author wrote it in sections, her approach and perspective changing just slightly each time, causing the dissensions.
I enjoyed, even loved portions, of the first section. Was bored with the next, hated the following, and didn't mind, but didn't love, any of the end.

I'm too sick (I hate having a cold), and antipathetic right now, to write any more.

I seriously loved this book and wish there were more than two in the series. The world building and character development is top notch and of course, the sexy times are smokin hot. I really hope Ms. Sinclair writes more in this series. Hot alphas, kick ass heroines, shifters, smokin sex scenes...yeah, please write more!!! :)

*This book was a self purchase. All opinions are my own.*

Story 4,0/5
Erotik 5+/5
Charaktere 4,6/5
Schreibstil 4,4/5
Gesamt 4,6/5

Spice Rating: 5 out of 5 ==> this book is not for those that need a clean romance.  Be Warned.

This is the first book in the Wild Hunt Series by Cherise Sinclair.  I absolutely love this author, so when I discovered she also wrote a paranormal romance, I will all in.  However, as much as I love the series as a whole, there were a few things that fell short with the first book.  (still worth the read though.... I have read this book at least 3-times).

The story follows a bad-ass covert marine named Victoria who helps a young boy in the beginning of the book.  She is then tasked with finding the shifters and informing his grandfather of what happened to him.  Victoria has to put her covert skills to its biggest test and try to find the shifters the quietist way possible without (1) revealing it to humans that shifters exist and (2) figuring out who the shifters are before they find her......the only thing is, the humans who kidnapped her to begin with are searching for her as well.  This story takes on many twists and turns and Victoria's life is at risk when she meets the Cosantir of the territory and his brother, a cahir (warrior) named Alec.

Character Strength - one of the positive things about the female lead is she is literally a bad-ass.  She is a covert Marine through and through and doesn't care if her insolence to a higher authority among the shifters gets her killed.  It is interesting to see her interaction with the shifters and with her human superiors separately .... and how she navigates each conversation and interaction.

World Building - The author does a great job at building this world and placing a human smack-dab in the middle of it.  There were no questions on the shifter laws, traditions,  or why they govern the people the way they do --- which I appreciated.  Having a great baseline on the world in the first book is SUCH a benefit when going to the next books as the ground work has already been set and the author can then focus on the story development.

Character Development -- The only character you see changing in the story (like truly changing) is Victoria..... because she is a single woman who is also a marine.  So, as she falls for the shifters, she has to learn that being alone, self sufficient, or always in control isn't her only path.  Calum and Alec don't grow or develop at all - they remain as they are from the beginning.  However, this does not impact the story in any negative manner.  It was actually pleasant ........

Quote:
"At this point...........,"  he murmured.  "You do not command.  You may beg, if you feel the need"

HOLY SMOKES!!

My only complaints for the first book was:

Depth -- the depth of the characters and back stories are severely lacking.  From what I recall, nothing was revealed about Calum or Alec's past.... which left a lot of questions I wished I could have had answered:  When did Calum become a Cosantir?  How did it happen?  What was the back story on his little girl Jamie?  What about Alec, what is his story?  How does one go about to become "God-Chosen" for the duties or talents they have?

Story Chopy-ness -- At times, I felt the story was not as smooth as it could have been in places .  The only way I can describe it is....  it seemed there were small (VERY small) chunks missing where a little more detail or time taken could have smoothed things out and made it easier to read.  However, this same thing happened with her first book for the Masters of the Shadowlands series....... while the rest of the books in the series (just like the Shadowlands) were immaculately done and immensely enjoyable.  I think the author may be overly focused on the world-building in the first book and overlooked some of those little details.

All in All...... this is an AMAZING STORY and a great springboard to launch her shifter series.  Well worth the read and a series I would pay money to purchase over and over again.

My only complaint about the book is that one of the two points of conflict is based on the "minor miscommunication blows upbthat could have been solved by a quick communication. That trope is lazy and brings nothing to the book.

I have recently become a huge fan of Cherise Sinclair, but Hour of the Lion takes the prize. What could be better than Sinclair's already steamy novels? Throw in shifters of course! I didn't see another addition to this book, but I hope that she will write one. Victoria is a CIA agent with a bad knee. Forced to return from her duty, and not liking it one bit. When she attempts to save a woman from being kidnapped, her intentions of proving she still has it go awry. She not only doesn't save the woman, but manages to get kidnapped herself. The thugs throw her in a basement with the other woman, and a boy in a cage. Apparently the boy is a shifter, and they are attempting to make more. She manages to escape with the boy, though he dies before she can get him to the hospital. With grim determination she sets out for the boys hometown, and the duty of notifying his grandfather of his death. With her promise to keep, and the thugs still on her trail she has to be extremely careful. Alec, and Calum, both brothers and locals make sure they are available to help. It doesn't hurt that they are both gorgeous, and very interested.

*************************** Spoilers/ Recap****************************
Lachlan, the boy she rescued gifts her with his powers of shifting, effectively turning her into a shifter, though it takes a while before she figures that out. Alec is the local sheriff, and Calum the local bar owner are both brothers/ littermates. Neither of them can figure out why they are so attracted to Vic, shifters aren't normally attracted to humans. Vidal is a mafia type drug lord. He worked, or killed his way to the top of the ladder. When he is diagnosed with Parkinson's, and his health starts to deteriorate, he is determined to discover the way to become a shifter. In his mind being a shifter will heal him, and allow him to live long enough to keep his place. Dodging Vidal's men, keeps Victoria busy, so busy that she disregards the sudden appearance of the fae. She assumes that in Cold Creek, all things paranormal reside here. She doesn't realize that it's her shifter magic that reveals them. With the race dying out, and too few woman among the shifters they usually take a mate to share between littermates. Vic can't understand how she can be equally attracted to two men, and being human feels guilty about it. Of course they kill the bad guys, and Vic ends up being the lifemate to both brothers, but not before some amazing menage action.

Another great read from Cherise Sinclair. Werecats and all kinds of other paranormal beings live in this story. Enjoyed fully, especially the steamy hot trademark sex that Ms. Sinclair wraps into her stories. Unwilling to give the heart of the story away I will leave it up to you to read about this romantic threesome.
