A return to the regency era in a Jane Austen style novel - set  a year after the events of Pride and Prejudice, we follow Miss Caroline Bingley as she galivants around the East side London (somewhere no genteel women should be visiting) trying to first locate a missing maid, and then ending up following a trail of a murder.
The tone, the setting, everything was perfection and gave me such Jane Austen vibes. We see some familiar names return to this book along with some new ones. Cowritten by a historical fiction author, the facts of the regency era are well researched and sometimes what seems different from the more popularised shows such as Bridgeton (i.e the constant beautiful weather they have) is actually more true to history.
Miss Caroline Bingley shows such grow in this first book, coming from a sheltered privilege life to exploring parts of the English society she never appreciated before. There is definitely still room for more growth though, so I'm excited to see what she gets up to next! Hoping for more more books to come in this series!

Thanks so much to HarpercollinsNZ for an ARC of this book. All opinions are my own.

When Georgina Darcy disappears to London to find her maid Jayani, who has vanished, her friend Miss Caroline Bingley rushes to find them both.  What follows is a mystery involving a missing maid and the murder of her brother which has Caroline and Georgiana moving through the underbelly of London's dirty streets and mixing with unsavory characters, in an effort to uncover the truth.  Miss Bingley is a force to be reckoned with and with her trusty manservant Gordon, uses her considerable investigative talents and large fortune to good use to discover the killer.

A fabulous whodunnit based on characters created by the incredible talents of Jane Austen, this is a wonderfully enjoyable read.  Lovers of historical mysteries will enjoy this novel which brings together a fun, imaginative and witty story filled with social commentary from that era.  Definitely worth reading!
