This novella wasn't super magical. Maybe it would be a bit better a 3.5 or 4 star if I had just read Fire Study like Maria planned but I didn't so I was a bit lost.
I still love Ari and Janco! I can never decide I want Ari and Janco to be like brothers or lovers. Both are appealing.
As I've stated in previous reviews I dislike multiple POVs but it wasn't too bad in this one. I barely noticed the changing POVs.
I'm sad that yet another Sandseed Storyweaver died. they are becoming extremely rare! O.O
I missed Yelena, Valek, Leif, and Kiki in this novella. But I shall see them again soon. :)

“I read his mind.” The Sitian pointed to Ari. “Yours was too…chaotic. Too many useless thoughts to wade through.”
A compliment or an insult? Janco guessed compliment and preened.”
I love Ari and Janco, so their bickering while having a little adventure was fun to read about.
However, the novella was nothing special, just a slice of their life. While enjoyable, nothing out of the ordinary. Glad I've read it, wouldn't miss anything if I haven't.

I really enjoy the short stories in this universe. This isn't one of my favourite ones but honestly, I'll follow Janco and Ari just about anywhere.
One thing Snyder does well is support characters. They're never wooden, often they're so well rounded you'd wouldn't notice if the main characters just stopped existing.
Set in a Yelena and Valek-less plot this is surprisingly good. I like the additional ties it forges between Sitia and Ixia.

I love love love Ari and Janco so much. I love getting to read from their point of view and I love their constant bickering and how this little story worked out.
