I liked this book, but I would’ve liked if it had focused more on the past and the Pulaski ship itself. But I really enjoyed learning about the boat and what happened.

This was the first novel I've read by Patti Callahan. Overall, I liked it. There are two timelines - present day and 1838. I could feel how deeply Everly, the main character in the present day story, was grieving the death of her best friend. Augusta and Lilly are the main characters in the story from 1838 and I enjoyed their stories - though they were harrowing. I actually wanted to read more of Lilly's chapters, especially as she and her baby and Priscilla/Chike made their way north. Perhaps that's a short story Patti Callahan will write? I also really liked the central question of how to survive the surviving, but I felt that only Everly's story really addressed that question. I thought you could mine more of Augusta and Lilly's stories for insights into the answer(s). There were times when I felt the story was a bit more of telling and not showing, and I did not appreciate the end (SPOILER ALERT) with Oliver telling Everly he loved her and she returned the affection. That didn't seem realistic to me.

I had a car trip through Georgia and put out a call for a good historical fiction, biography, or non-fiction book on Georgia and several people mentioned this book.

Dual time period story about what is called the Titanic of the South. This trip did not include Savahana but I had been there several times before and had been to the museums and locations mentioned.. and I had even heard the story of the Titanic of the South. Good read.. or in this case... great book to listen to while driving through Georgia.
