3.5 Starts as kind of a quaint, Shirley-Jackson-worshiping, thriller about an extremely introverted 50-something woman living in a manor who has occasional lodgers. Her sister whom she hasn't seen in years arrives and events force the protagonist to reconsider many of the family's secrets. Nice, but kind of on the bland side for the first half. But revs up to a big finale where it swings from domestic thriller to full-on gothic drama and gets pretty wild. Doesn't reinvent the wheel but pretty strong debut.
I loved the atmosphere, the writing and how the story unfolded. It kept my attention throughout and now I’m a bit sad it ended.

Very good for a debut novel, but a bit drawn out - especially towards the end. This was also not a historical fiction (although there are dual timelines, with one set in the 60s), but that didn’t stop me from assuming this was in the 1800s for an unreasonable amount of time

I am so, so bored. I'm sorry, I tried to stick it out.....but I can't anymore.

A little clunky in places, but overall an enjoyable little haunted house mystery.
