This is a graphic novel adaptation of a book series from Joseph Joffo recounting his journey escaping the Nazis during WWII. Two young brothers are sent off on their own to survive beyond France, being reunited with family members and allies along the way. While this is a good way to deliver the story to a middle grade audience, the end portion seemed rushed. I so wished there was more included about how the children felt to have to rely only on themselves and be constantly outrunning German soldiers. I'd be interested to read the full books to get more of the story.

Now THAT is how you do a graphic novel!! Just as I was about to give up on graphic novels, this one swooped in and blew me away! The artwork as stunning and the story was beautifully told. It didn't feel like anything was left out, and it seamlessly managed to tell the story from only one of the brother's point of view.
Wow this was just fabulous and heartwarming and so well told.

Wonderful - brilliantly brought to life the way a child would view WWII. Haven't read the original memoir (our copy at work is too gross to touch - REO please!), but would like too.
