This is one of those books I read based on fantastic reviews. Simply being depressing in itself doesn’t warrant a 2 star review, but add to that variables of graffiti that is supposed to be truly offensive and falling very short of that mark, and characters who are standard 2D representations of not much, and several offshoots from a central theme of the 2008 economic downturn... I did finish it. But I didn’t need to.

Honestly started reading this book because a friend of mine said she didn't like it. Just for some context LOL. I was hoping I might have a different experience or at least be able to see how bad it was. I was pleasantly surprised that I did end up enjoying this book, but it wasn't amazing or anything. The best part was the anthology style storytelling which the author did super well in my opinion. Otherwise, I didn't connect too well with any of the characters and the plot was an honest three stars for me. Definitely interesting, enjoyed my time, and above neutral, but I will not be recommending this to my friends on the regular.

As slick as the writing was, I was desperately trying to maintain interest. Unfortunately, it's just a matter of differing likes.

Like a lovely cross between a ghost story and Douglas Coupland.
