Not exactly what I was expecting when I picked this book up, it's pretty dark! Very engaging though and I personally liked the back and forth style she wrote in for the most part.

Well, that was entirely underwhelming.

I listened to this while I had a migraine, so it was probably a bit too heavy for what I needed at the time. That said it was a very well constructed story, I found all the characters captivating and I appreciated the back and fo th framing. But it does not feel hopeful. This is not an 'it gets better when you grow up' kind of story. It feels very CanLit. It's beautiful and sad.

This was a story about five girls on an overnight kayaking trip at camp that ended in tragedy. I thought it was interesting how emotional trauma manifested itself differently in each of the girls as we read how their lives went on into adulthood. It was a quick read for me, cover to cover in a day. I have a feeling this is one that will stay with me for a while. 3.5 ⭐️

I kinda like the interspersing of the camp chapters with the after chapters, but didnt feel too strong a connection and kinda wanted more knots tied for like everyone

I loved Kim Fu's debut novel and I was very excited to read this. I thought it was extremely well written and enjoyable to read. The characters were well developed and their motivations clear. However, the overall thesis of how this initial event at camp shaped the girls into their adult lives wasn't always clear. It seemed more that the event reflected the people they already were. If you are able to put that expectation aside, I believe you would find it an enjoyable book.
