I did not really like the ending, and the way the main character chose to use her wishes. But the story was interesting.

Avi is hit or miss, probably because he cranks out so many books. A lot of them are great, and the less-than-great ones are usually just nondescript. But this book was so irritating. The main character was dull, indecisive, close to dumb, not likable. Books that are about people who are weak and frightened are usually about their discovering their inner power, even if only a little, even if only at the end. Morwenna is frightened, weak, and indecisive right up until the last page. If it had taken longer than an hour and a half to read, I'd probably be even more annoyed.

It was a quick, simple read. I will note, though is the way the narrator greets and bids farewell to the reader. I thought that was very unique in a story as well as letting the reader feel really a part of it. Not surprised to see this in an early reader lever story, but I liked it nonetheless.

Can I just say that this book had An amazing ending and that is what bumped it up to three stars. The choice she makes at the end was great and her decision made me so happy. YOU GO GIRL! This is a great book about magic, and responsibility. I enjoyed it immensely!
