Listening to this book was a chore.

I'm glad I listened to this book.
I didn't want this book to end.
I could not wait to be done With this book.
Average, but better than anything I've written.

Another enjoyable Sarah Woolson novel. Sarah's protesting of Robert's feelings was somewhat annoying, but the ending left us with more hope in that direction. There are two cases in this story. One mystery centers around several murders on Telegraph hill and the other case involves the building of a bullring in San Francisco.

I believe that this is the last mystery in the series. I really hope not!

Good view of early San Francisco, not so good writing (adverbs and way too much use of physical description to convey emotion) that gets in the way of an excellent plot. The characters don't progress very much; it's a very static world in which the only exit is death or marriage, and I'm not sure which is worse for the characters. I found the pace much too slow, though the basic plot is fine; it was a struggle getting through the middle of the book.
