3.5 stars. Highly entertaining, hilarious, and imaginative. Very chatty. Excellent “world building,” a term I learned in writing class. But also very MFA, a bit overworked and overedited.
experience definitely enhanced reading high on pain meds… but weird and quirky and fun and sad but not stupid and profound if you let it be. somewhere between pointless summer read and “literature” which is where i find myself gravitating in this current moment

ok wait. I have a huge conspiracy about Greta but I need to reread the book to solidify my theory
I had so much fun with this. I just love a deeply fcked up protagonist and Greta was as far gone as they come. Hilarious, outrageously painful and uncomfortable, perfect in every way.

I picked this book up because it was suggested to me as somewhat in the same seam as Fleabag, which is both true and false. I thought the writing was better than the plot; Jen Beagin did a wonderful job at weaving in humor and giving the audience a reason to find Greta fascinating… until about 1/2 way through the storyline. This had a solid start and is worth the read if you’re looking for something fun, but there was little to no character development and the ending felt rushed and unresolved.
