I have to say I never expected to like Indian romance books as much as I do, considering how little of that culture I have any experience with.  But Samara (the FMC) is a delightful woman, if a bit Emma-like in her involvement, and the Khanna family need some much healing and help.  It was fun and funny and romantic to read.  I went through it quickly, unsurprisingly.

This is a new-to-me author, and I loved the way the book made me laugh and gave me all the feels at the same time. The pacing moves pretty quickly, and I listened to the entire book in basically one sitting. Samara is one of my favorite female characters I have had in a novel in quite some time, and I adored her ability to help everyone in surprisingly sneaky but useful ways. I love that I also got to learn more about another culture through reading this, and having there be not one but TWO romances that transpire was adorbs and made my heart happy.

The audiobook for Never Meant to Stay is what I would call a must-listen, and I thought that Ulka Mohanty did just a fantastic job with multiple viewpoints. The POVs jump around in each chapter, but I was never confused about whose viewpoint I was in, and I have to give massive props to the author for that. That doesn't always translate to audio well when there is only one narrator, but it did perfectly in this instance. I would have liked even more focus on the romance in the storyline, but overall, this still had an excellent balance for me, and I love that it made me LOL. There is just a touch of steam, but for the most part, this was just a really funny, dramatic, and endearing romcom that I will not be forgetting anytime soon.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Picked this as my Amazon first reads…cute little story. And I really liked all of the characters, and didn’t like the ones we weren’t supposed to like. Easy, breezy read.

Samara has always been more of a nomad with no real place to call home as her father is a diplomat. When he announces he’s moving onto Africa and Samara still has weddings to photograph for her job, he ends up suggesting she stay with an old well off friends of the family, the Khanna.

Upon arriving she notices this family has a lot of unresolved baggage. It’s made worse by the oldest son, Sharav who is now the man of the house, not wanting her around. Despite it all Samara is exactly what this family needs to heal and come back together.

I really enjoyed this romantic comedy. The culture of Delhi was so rich and fascinating to learn more about. I fell head over heels for the secondary characters almost more so than the main characters at times. I did enjoy our main couple but they spent most of the book pining for each other and there was very little in romantic payoff. I did enjoy the epilogue though and felt it really did pull everything together well.

If you’re looking for a great rom com in the comedy of errors style with a cast of characters you’ll adore then I think you’ll really enjoy this one too!

This was a cute story, not much depth, but a nice quick read.

DID NOT FINISH: 66%

At first, the silly cliche moments were just that. Silly. But then after the wedding sharav went to, things started to get weird. And after that it was all just becoming less silly cliche stuff like haha that's so bad its funny to oh my god this is so annoying can this just end already. I'm usually a very easy to please reader and enjoy silly books like this one, but honestly I couldn't finish the second half of it. Despite its short amount of pages and interesting story line, it just could not hold my attention and I couldn't take any of it seriously. And not in the way it was intended for. Truly amazed that this has a 4.1 average rating on goodreads too because even what I did enjoy from the first 30% it would've been about a 3 star rating and that's pushing it.
